Most people who come to Nozawa Onsen take the Hokuriku Shinkansen bullet train from Tokyo Station to Iiyama Station and then arrange a private transfer, or take the Nozawa Onsen Liner bus to Nozawa Onsen Village.
The Nozawa Onsen Liner is a direct bus service to Nozawa from the Iiyama station, the bus service leaves approximately 10 minutes after the arrival of every bullet train (Tokyo to Iiyama Station bullet train) EXCEPT the last train of the day. Please note that if you arrive on the last train from Tokyo you will need to take a taxi from the station to Nozawa as there is no other service
During peak season (New Year, Chinese New Year, Japan public holidays), it is advisable to purchase your return shinkansen tickets in advance before you arrive in Nozawa Onsen, because they do sell out.
Tokyo to Nozawa Onsen
Catch the Hokuriku Shinkansen directly to Iiyama Station (approximately 1 hour 50 minutes). Then take the Nozawa Onsen Liner to Chuo Bus terminal (approximately 40 minutes) .
From Narita Airport
Narita Airport to Tokyo Station (approximately 58 minutes via Narita Express) then continue on to Iiyama Station(approximately 1 hour 50 minutes via Hokuriku Shinkansen)
or
Narita Airport to Ueno Station (approximately 50 minutes via Keisei Skyliner) then continue on to Iiyama Station(approximately 1 hour 45 minutes via Hokuriku Shinkansen)
From Haneda Airport
Haneda Airport to Tokyo Station (approximately 30 minutes via Tokyo Monorail and Yamanote Line) then continue on to Iiyama Station(approximately 1 hour 50 minutes via Hokuriku Shinkansen)
From Iiyama Station to Nozawa Onsen (Chuo Bus Terminal)
Catch the Nozawa Liner Bus or a taxi to the Chuo Bus Terminal. Please download the bus schedule before you leave.

If you would like your luggage picked up from Chuo bus terminal and dropped off at you accomodation or vice versa please email our booking team. (¥1000 per pick up)
The easiest way to get to Nozawa Onsen is via the Snow Shuttle bus service direct from Tokyo. If you are flying Tokyo on the late flight you don't need to spend the night, just book the Snow Shuttle and be delivered to our door so you can the next day on the mountain.
The service includes pick up and drop off at Narita and Haneda airports and Shinjuku Bus Terminal as well as inter resort transfers.
As a guest of Stay Nozawa we can book the service for you and add it to your account.
If you would like to book the service, make sure you get in early as seats fill up quickly.
The Snow Shuttle service will run from 18 December 2018 through till 17 March 2019.
Bookings open 1 June 2018.

Driving to Nozawaonsen is possible via the expressways across Japan. However, it will often cost more and be more difficult than catching the train. Icy conditions in winter also make it dangerous to drive.
If you are planning to drive please exercise caution and respect the local road laws.
Please note that parking is limited in town and your accommodation might not have any car parking available.
Please contact our booking team if you plan to drive here.
Because our hotel is located on the snow resort there is NO VEHICLE ACCESS to the hotel. We operate a free over snow shuttle service in the morning for check out before the and also in the evening for getting to/from the village. We cannot drive up to the hotel during resort operating hours which are between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm. Please read the following directions for information on how to get to the hotel.
Daytime Arrivals (9:00am - 4:00pm) Via Nozawa Onsen Liner Bus
- Take the bus to the last stop, Chuo Bus Terminal.
- If you are travelling light you can make your way straight to the hotel via the free Shinyu Pair chairlift or Moving Walkway which operate between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm.
- If you have heavy luggage, and would like to arrange a baggage pick up from the Chuo Bus Terminal please contact our bookings team to book. Our baggage service costs 1,000yen per booking. Due to over snow restrictions we are unable to deliver luggage to the hotel until the road opens at 5 pm. Your luggage will be stored with at our facility in the village and arrive at the hotel at 5:30 pm.
- This luggage pick-up service requires booking in advance and is subject to availability during busy times. Please contact us before arrival with your estimated arrival time if you would like to schedule a pickup.
- If you intend to hit the slopes on your arrival day you will need to be prepared with your gear as your large luggage will not arrive at the hotel until 5:30 pm.
By Taxi/Direct Airport Shuttle
- To book a direct airport shuttle with us, please submit the booking form. If you are arranging a private taxi or transfer please ask your driver to drop you at The Craft Room Cafe near the Nagasaka Gondola (ad. If they do not know where The Craft Room is located tell them “Yama no Ohtaki Hotel” which is a well-known hotel just behind The Craft Room.
- We have a luggage storage room at The Craft Room, so you can store your luggage and make your way to the hotel for check-in. Your luggage will be shuttled to the hotel at 5:30 pm (after the resort closes and we can drive our snow vehicle on the snow).
- The ski resort runs regular snowmobile shuttles to/from the Hikage and Nagasaka Stations during resort operating hours. There is a pick-up point just across from The Craft Room so please make your way here after dropping off your luggage. It is a fun, easy way to get up to the hotel, we recommend wearing appropriate footwear as there is a short walk from the Hikage drop off point up to the hotel.
Via Car
- If you are planning to drive to Nozawa Onsen, please note that you cannot drive directly up to The Schneider Hotel. Roads leading up to the hotel are closed the entire snow season.
- We recommend that hotel guests park in the ski resort overnight parking(P2near Karasawa) or the village underground parking facility at Shinden. You will first need to drop off passengers and luggage to The Craft Room storage facility. Unfortunately, either parking lot will require a bit of a walk for the driver. During ski resort operating hours, the ski resort runs a shuttle bus from both recommended parking lots to P1 near Nagasaka Gondola and The Craft Room.
- We get a lot of snow in Nozawa Onsen! Your vehicle must have snow tires and winter wipers and we strongly recommend four-wheel drive.
Evening Arrivals (5:00pm - 10:00pm)

- If you are arriving at the Chuo Bus Terminal after 5:00 pm you will need to take a taxi or walk up to The Craft Room to catch one of the evening snow van shuttles to the hotel. The first snow van shuttle leaves The Craft Room at 6:15 pm. To pre-book a taxi please contact Nozawa Onsen Kotsu at 0269-85-3333 (English speakers available).
Late Arrivals (after 10:15pm)
- The Schneider Hotel’s location on the mountain makes it an amazing place for a ski holiday, but there are some logistics getting to the hotel, so we do discourage late-night arrivals. If you want to arrive after the last shuttle bus leaves The Craft Room at 10:15 pm, you will need to reserve a late-night pickup in advance. There is an additional fee of 5,000yen for arrivals after 10:15 pm as we must arrange a driver to collect you. Late-night pick-ups must be reserved when you confirm your booking, so please keep this in mind when booking flights.
